COVID-19: Update from NISA

Beginning August 4, NISA will be opening for face-to-face peer support appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

During our first stage of reopening we are prioritizing support for:
– members without a phone or internet
– members who have not been accessing peer support with us during our closure

Do you know someone who hasn’t been able to access peer support by phone or internet during NISA’s closure? Please share with them this important update!

Sign-ups for peer support have already begun and will continue Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in August (expect August 6) between 9 and 9:30 a.m., 10:45-11:15 a.m. and 1 and 1:30 p.m. in our lobby at 36 Elgin Street.

If someone is unable to come to NISA during these times to register, we can also make appointments over the phone by calling Tammy Armstrong at 705-222-6472 ext. 304.

We are also booking appointments for people who are interested in learning more about NISA Membership.

Everyone who comes onto the NISA site will go through a screening process, is expected to participate to keep things safe and to respect necessary boundaries and distancing procedures. NISA will not be open for drop-in at this time.

We want to thank our active members who have asked that we give priority to people who have no phones or internet and who have been cut off from service during our closure. Your community spirit is what makes our peer support community strong.

We want you to continue reaching out to us during this first stage of reopening. Phone support and Zoom groups will continue.
The groups schedule is posted each week in the NISA Facebook membership group or you can call us to get the access codes to Zoom.

Our phones lines remain staffed by peer workers and anyone who needs support during the day between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. can talk to a peer worker (705-222-6472). The Regional Warm Line continues to operate every evening from 6 p.m. to midnight (1-866-856-9276).

We hope to announce further openings of our programs in the coming weeks and months. Stay safe!

Wellness & Recovery

Good health comes to us in many ways. Join NISA members in our Food is Mood workshops, get your blood moving in physical activities, or participate in NISA’s Wellness & Recovery sessions.

Creative Expression

Your experiences are valuable. Share your life experience and your skills in The Writers’ Circle, The Artists’ Loft, or by quilting for the homeless in Warm Hearts/Warm Bodies.

Occupational & Vocational Skills

Build new skills and remember old ones at NISA by working on computer refurbishing or exploring your skills and goals in recovery-oriented groups.
Nobody knows the particular challenges of living with mental health challenges unless they have experienced it themselves. At NISA, be amongst your peers, sharing coffee or a listening ear.
