NISA Champions take on the Sudbury Defeat Depression Walk

Defeat Depression

Last Saturday, May 23rd, our team NISA Champions joined the Sudbury Defeat Depression, move for mental heath walk!  Defeat Depression is a national mental health awareness fundraising campaign that promotes discussion around depression and other mood disorders, and works to reduce stigma around mental illness.  The campaign brought together mental health organizations, community groups, caring companies, concerned volunteers, and family and friends, who encouraged people to Move for Mental Health. Sudbury raised close to $25,000 to support our local Canadian Mental Health Association that provides direct services to individuals affected by mental illness and their families!

We also had a booth for Open Minds Quarterly at the event to share our local mental health publication and encourage conversations with an interactive activity asking people how they open minds about mental health.

We shared the collection of responses on Twitter. You can continue the conversation with us online by following NISA and OMQ on Facebook and Twitter — @nisanorthern and @openmindsq.

Larson’s Gallery – showcasing Sudbury’s art, cultural, and social scene by local artist, Larson – has also posted a series of great photos from Saturday’s Defeat Depression Walk/Run at Bell Park. Check it out here!

Congratulations to all the walkers and runners who are taking care of their own well-being through being active, and encouraging more important conversations. A big thank you to the organizers for planning this event — we had a great time!

All are welcome to continue to get moving with us at our weekly walking group, held Wednesdays at 1pm. For more information, contact Claudie at 705-222-6472 ext. 316 or
