Project Description

Quilting and Mitt-Making Blitz

Calling all Quilters! We need your help to make as many quilts as possible for our annual donation to a street outreach program in the winter. NISA will be holding a Quilting Blitz in our Warm Hearts / Warm Bodies program from December 7th to the 10th. Members are welcome to come any time from 8:30am-4pm to cut squares and assemble the quilts and help spread the warmth in our community.

On Friday December 11th from 10am-4pm we will be having a mitten making blitz! Join in on this popular upcycling project which uses old sweaters to create new, warm mittens. You’ll learn how to make mitts to donate to our outreach quilt giveaway this winter, and also get to make a pair or two for yourself!

Warm Hearts/Warm Bodies is a NISA program that solicits and receives donations of materials, fabric and textiles for the creation of quilts, blankets and comforters for people within our community who are in need. Warm Hearts/Warm Bodies reduces waste by re-using materials, provides a valued service to the less fortunate, and helps program participants acquire useful skills.

Year-round, NISA accepts material such as cloth and wool to make quilts. If you have donations of quilts, blankets or comforters (new or gently used), please contact Kaarina Ranta at 705-222-6472 to arrange a drop-off. They will be distributed to Foyer Notre Dame in the winter to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
