NISA’s Best of Hot Docs – Sudbury Video Contest!
Are you a filmmaker? Do you have a story to tell about the experience of living with mental illness?
In conjunction with Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5th – 11th, 2014) NISA/Northern Initiative for Social Action launches a documentary short ﬁlm contest for local ﬁlmmakers, interested in illuminating the lived experience of mental illness. Winning ﬁlms will be awarded with a cash prize and will be shown in the upcoming Best of Hot Docs-‐ Sudbury Showcase , November 6-‐9th, 2014.
Filmmakers are invited to create and submit a short documentary ﬁlm which illuminates the realities of living with a mental illness and/or challenge the perceptions of mental health/illness in some way. Films must be 10 minutes or less and ﬁlmmakers must be current Northeastern Ontario residents; students, amateurs, professionals.
The ﬁnalists‘ shorts will play ahead of the Northern Ontario premiere of John Kastner’s Out of Mind Out of Sight, as part of Best of Hot Docs-‐ Sudbury 2014 Showcase. Awards with cash prizes will be presented at the screening, Thursday Nov. 6th at 7pm, held at Sudbury Secondary-‐ Sheridan Auditorium.
Open Category-‐ Best Local Short presented by NISA-‐ Cash prize $1000
Best Consumer Film — Cash Prize-‐ $750
Best Young Filmmaker Short-‐ (up to age 30) Cash Prize $500
The selection jury will be made up of local mental health consumers and/or ﬁlm industry professionals.
To participate, drop oﬀ your completed ﬁlm on DVD or Blu-ray by Fri. October 31st 4pm to NISA, 36 Elgin St., 2nd ﬂoor Sudbury, ON P3C 5B4.
