Peer Support Leadership and Advocacy

In Ontario, PeerWorks represents CSIs and Peer Support organizations. Its advocacy efforts point out how peer support organizations and CSIs alleviate a lot of pressures faced by the healthcare system. PeerWorks also brings together people working in peer support at conferences and training events, and it houses some of the history of our peer movement on its website.

Peer Support Canada

Peer Support Canada represents peer support at the national level across Canada. Formed in 2013, Peer Support Canada was established to carry on the work of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, that is, promoting the growth, recognition, and accessibility of peer support. The organization developed standards for peer support practice and set up a peer support certification program. Peer support workers can apply to the program to be assessed on their knowledge, skills, and experience as a peer support. If you meet the requirements, you are certified as a peer support worker who meet nationally-endorsed standards.

Peer Support Canada brought together people working peer support at national peer support conferences in its first years, and NISA played a role in the planning and organizing of these early events.

Currently, Peer Support Canada is reorganizing itself as an independent charitable organization.
